Program Overview

The ICAO Global Reporting Format (GRF) is a globally-harmonized methodology for runway surface condition assessment and reporting. It is intended to be the only such reporting format for international aviation, with the objective of reducing runway excursions, thus improving the safety of airport operations. This awareness program provides the minimum knowledge and skills required on Runway Condition Reporting as outlined in ICAO Circular 355 (Assessment, Measurement and Reporting of Runway Surface Conditions). It will be mandatory for the relevant personnel to undergo Initial Training prior to the Effective Date, as well as subsequently undertake Recurrent Training as per the Competencies laid down by ICAO in Section-6, Attachment-A of the aforesaid ICAO Annex.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the General Principles & Objectives of the RCR-GRF
  • List Contaminant Descriptors
  • Define Depth & Coverage of Contaminants
  • Describe Significant Change in Runway Surface Condition
  • Apply the Operational Practices to assign RWYCC
  • Assess the Runway Surface Conditions, using Runway Condition Assessment Matrix (RCAM) and Runway Condition Code(RWYCC) as per “PANS-OPS” Doc. 9981 – “Aerodromes”, 2nd Edition.

Target Audience

Personnel in the information chain drawn from Design/Construction/Maintenance of Airfield Pavements, Pilots, Flight Operations, Flight Dispatch, Flight Planning, Flight Safety, Air Traffic Services (ATC), Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) etc. must undergo the Training

Examination

Overall minimum score of 75% is mandatory for passing the examination
