Progressive discipline is just not working anymore. Supervisors and managers are reluctant to begin the discipline process. When all informal attempts don’t work, they will initiate the disciplinary procedure with the intend to fire the person. No real efforts anymore to improve or find solutions for the problems. Only focus is punishment that fits the 'crime'. Discipline without punishment means eliminating all form of punishment when conducting disciplinary actions. The system focuses on insisting people take personal responsibility for their choice of behavior and conduct. Decision to abolish the conventional unpaid disciplinary suspension and lay off as the final step and replace it by a "paid disciplinary suspension". Return with final decision: either to solve the immediate problem and make total commitment to acceptable performance in every area in his/her job to quit. If the employee decides to remain, and other disciplinary problem occur = termination. The aim and purpose of this program is to reduce turnover/firing and create a more productive and motivated workforce, taking ownership, accountability and responsibility.
