Course Overview
To equip participants with the essential knowledge, skills and attitude required to successfully undertake the duties and responsibilities of Ship Security Officer (SSO) and in in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a ship, for implementing and maintaining a Ship Security Plan and for liaising with the Company Security Officer (CSO) and with Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs), according to the requirements of the relevant international legislation as defined by the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) Convention and the International Ship, Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code in section as defined in section A/2.1.6 (and section A/12), and as amended in section A-VI/5 of the STCW Code.
Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:
Basic understanding of Solas Ch XI – 2, ISM, MLC and STCW is needed. Participants aiming for a certificate of proficiency as ship security officer shall have approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or appropriate seagoing service and knowledge of ship operations (STCW 78, as amended, Reg. VI/5).
The participant would need to sit for a final examination towards the end of the training program and secure a minimum of 80% in order to pass
The certificate will be issued by GAA and is accepted by Bahrain’s Ports and Maritime Affairs Directorate
