ICAO 059 ATS Operational Supervisor Course

Program Overview

This course is designed to prepare ATCOs for the role of Operational Supervisor at an operational ATS unit. This syllabus follows the Guidelines for Management Training for Operational ATM Supervisors, published by Eurocontrol, Document 765988, May 2004.

Course Objective

On completion of this course the participant will have the required knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSA’s) necessary to commence on-the-job training as an ATS Supervisor.

    The following subjects are delivered in the course:

    The Supervisor – 3 hours

  • Role of the Supervisor (1 hour)
  • Role within the Management Structure (1 hour)
  • Individual Managerial Style (1 hour)

    • Team Resource Management – 9 hours

  • Importance of Teamwork (1 hour)
  • Building the Team (2 hours)
  • Communication Process (1 hour)
  • Communication Skills (2 hours)
  • Leadership & Followership (2 hours)
  • Motivating a Team (1 hour)

    • Workplace Supervision – 6 hours

  • Managing Conflict in the Workplace (2 hours)
  • Crisis Management (2 hours)
  • Managing Stress (1 hour)
  • Managing Fatigue (1 hour)

    • Transformation Management – 2 hours

  • Transformation Management (2 hours)

    • Customer Service – 1 hour

  • Development of Customer Service (1 hour)

    • Other activities:

  • Course Introduction (1 hour)
  • Revision for Examination (1 hour)
  • Written Examination (1 hour)
  • Course Evaluation (1 hour)

Examination

  • Written examination at the end of the course. Minimum of 70% required to pass.

Pre-requisites

  • Hold an ATCO licence for a minimum of 3 years, with a recommended minimum of 2 years operational experience in the relevant area of supervision, in order to commence on-the-job training as a Supervisor.

Target Audience

ATCOs selected for development as Operational Supervisors.

Delivery

    A maximum of 12 students are allowed per course. Delivered by a qualified instructor.
