This syllabus was developed to align with ICAO Doc 10056 Manual on Air Traffic Controller Competency-based Training and Assessment, 1st Edition 2017.
Learning Objectives
On completion of this course the participant will have the required knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSA’s) necessary to commence on-the-job training as an
Area Controller Procedural (ACP) for ICAO licensing purposes.

Pre-requisites
The following requirements must be met in order to join the course:
Hold a General Secondary Certificate or equivalent foreign certificate with a pass result of not less than 70%;
Demonstrate fluency in the English language to IELTS 4.5 or above in order to satisfy the requirements of ICAO English Language Level 4; and
Successful completion of an approved ICAO 051 ATC Basic Course.
Examination
The course includes written examinations to assess learning in each subject (with the exceptions of Introduction to the Course and Professional Environment, which are not examined) and practical assessments at periodic stages during the simulation phase to assess competence.
Written examinations are conducted in a controlled environment and a score of 70% or higher is required in each written examination to pass the subject. Participants are permitted one supplementary examination per subject.
Practical evaluations shall be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the ATS Training Organization Manual (ATSTOM), which prescribes competency standards and assessment procedures.
Students that require the underpinning knowledge necessary to enable them to commence further training towards Air Traffic Control ratings in Aerodrome, Approach and Area Control disciplines.
Certificate Awarded
Each theory subject and practical simulation phase must be successfully completed to be awarded the ICAO 055 Area Control Procedural Course certificate.
Delivery
A minimum of 6 students and a maximum of 16 students are allowed per course.
Delivered by a qualified ATC Instructor. One instructor required for each training session.
